Hi guys, Just found this in a blog and I thought could be interesting , a bit long though: (by the way, I usually go riding with Chainring, maybe I should say behind him :cuñao....) Some answers to just about any bike forum post Ive ever read If you think your bike looks good, it does. If you like the way your bike rides, its an awesome bike. You dont need to spend a million dollars to have a great bike, but if you do spend a million dollars and know what you want youll probably also have a great bike. Yes, you can tour on your bike whatever it is. Yes, you can race on your bike whatever it is. Yes, you can commute on your bike whatever it is. 26 wheels or 29 or 650b or 700c or 24 or 20 or whatever yes, that wheel size is rad and youll probably get where youre going. Disc brakes, cantis, v-brakes, and road calipers all do a great job of stopping a bike when theyre working and adjusted. No paint job makes everyone happy. Yes, you can put a rack on that. Get some p-clamps if there are no mounts. Steel is a great material for making bike frames - so is aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium. You can have your saddle at whatever angle makes you happy. Your handlebars can be lower than your saddle, even with your saddle, or higher than your saddle. Whichever way you like it is right. Being shuttled up a downhill run does not make you a weak person, nor does choosing not to fly off of a 10 foot drop. Bike frames made overseas can be super cool. Bike frames made in the USA can be super cool. Hey, tattooed and pierced long shorts wearin flat brim hat red bull drinkin white Oakley sportin rad person on your full suspension big hit bike nice work out there. Hey, little round glasses pocket protector collared shirt skid lid rear view mirror sandal wearing schwalbe marathon running pletscher two-leg kickstand tourist good job. Hey, shaved leg skinny as hell super duper tan line hear rate monitor checking power tap train in the basement all winter super loud lycra kit million dollar wheels racer keep it up. The more you ride your bike, the less your ass will hurt. The following short answers are good answers, but not the only ones for the question asked 29, Brooks, lugged, disc brake, steel, Campagnolo, helmet, custom, Rohloff, NJS, carbon, 31.8, clipless, porteur. No bike does everything perfectly. In fact, no bike does anything until someone gets on it to ride. Sometimes, recumbent bikes are ok. Your bikeshop is not trying to screw you. Theyre trying to stay open. Buying things off of the internet is great, except when it sucks. Some people know more about bikes than you do. Other people know less. Maybe the person you waved at while you were out riding didnt see you wave at them. It sucks to be harassed by assholes in cars while youre on a bike. It also sucks to drive behind assholes on bikes. Did you build that yourself? Awesome. Did you buy that? Cool. Wheelies are the best trick ever invented. Thats just a fact. Which is better, riding long miles, or hanging out under a bridge doing tricks? Yes. Yes, you can break your collar bone riding a bike like that. Stopping at stop signs is probably a good idea. Driving with your bikes on top of your car to get to a dirt trail isnt ideal, but for most people its necessary. If your bike has couplers, or if you have a spendy bike case, or if you pay a shop to pack your bike, or if you have a folding bike, shipping a bike is still a pain in the ass for everyone involved. That dent in your frame is probably ok, but maybe its not. You should get it looked at. Touch up paint always looks like shit. Often it looks worse than the scratch. A pristine bike free of dirt, scratches, and wear marks makes me sort of sad. A bike thats been chained to the same tree for three years caked with rust and missing parts makes me sad too. Bikes purchased at Wal-mart, Target, Costco, or K-mart are generally not the best bang for your buck. Toe overlap is not the end of the world, unless you crash and die then it is. Sometimes parts break. Sometimes you crash. Sometimes its your fault. Yes, you can buy a bike without riding it first. It would be nice to ride it first, but its not a deal breaker not to. Ownership of a truing stand does not a wheel builder make. 32 spokes, 48 spokes, 24 spokes, three spokes? Sure. Single speed bikes are rad. Bikes with derailleurs and cassettes are sexy. Belt drive internal gear bikes work great too. Columbus, TruTemper, Reynolds, Ishiwata, or no brand? Id ride it. Tubeless tires are pretty cool. So are tubes. The moral of RAGBRAI is that families and drunken boobs can have fun on the same route, just maybe at different times of day. Riding by yourself kicks ass. You might also try riding with a group. Really fast people are frustrating, but they make you faster. When you get faster, you might frustrate someone else. Stopping can be as much fun as riding. Lots of people worked their asses off to build whatever youre riding on. You should thank them.
Thanks for link some lovely konas on there, tempted to share mine on there but wouldn't know what to write .
Hi Doohan... You don´t by any chance happen to be Brian, do you??? . I only know 2 bike-friends of Chainring: Juan Carlos (as far as I know he doesn´t know how to speak english, that´s why I chose the other one) and Brian. Our UK friend Peter and US-Colombian-Spanish friend Ivan have just disappeared. If you think you´re not good enough to follow Chain when you go ride with him, just take a look at my first experience trying to do so: http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.php?737954-Siguiendo-a-3-flacas-y-fuera-de-punto Since it´s written in spanish our friend from Devon, Kona Nut, can´t understand it. But let me summarize it for him in a few words: It´s about how hard Chainring pushses on his Sacattante road bike pedals... Mamma mia! BTW, Kona, if you wish to post your Kona´s pics in the spanish classic section, and need some translation, just tell me. Spanish is my mother tounge... I´m bad at english but not that bad at spanish! Cheers!.
Have I upset someone ?? That be brilliant if you could do that for me I will upload the pic's in there tomorrow. That ok??
Sure! Just tell me the pics you wanna put in there and I´ll add some words in spanish to let our spanish friends Know about you and your Konas!. Cheers!
Thank you very much, I will put the pictures up that I have put in here . Where you think best to put them, in which thread?? I am very grateful thank you for your help, your English is great.
You´r welcome. My pleasure. Just thinking about the easier way to do it... I could write something in spanish introducing you and your lovely bikes, so that all spanish classic Konas old-school bikers in this forum can have feedback comments or just see how beautiful your bikes are. The best thread to do so may well be this one: http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.php?349624-Santuario-Kona (Santuario Kona, or Sanctuary for classic Konas enthusiactic bikers) I´m a little busy right now, but later this afternoon I will pm you with some words in spanish so that you can copy-paste and use them as a proper introduction... You can write in english just after this words are pasted... adding the pics, and whatever you want. The idea is just a bilingual written text for boht spanish and english readers... So, if it sounds good to you, just wait for it. I will pm you with the spanish introduction words... Cheers!
Jose! Good to hear from you in the language of Shakespeare (or should I say Lance Armstrong?). And that was a good post you attached. The message is kind of, “Everything is cool. It doesn't really matter if you're a rank beginner or a hotshot, or if you've got a cheapo bike or a $5,000 racing special. The important thing is that you're enjoying yourself and learning” And that's combined with some common sense wisdom like, “The more you ride your bike, the less your ass will hurt.” That's good news because my ass was hurting on my last bike ride. I think that's because I'd been riding for six days in a row. But I won't be able to do that this month as I'm quite busy at work. I'm going to try to ride four days and run one day. I should tell Ángel (Interaptor) that Jose (Doohan) is a mountain bike buddy of mine. The other day you met my road biking friends (Juan Carlos and Brian). In any case, don't let Doohan fool you: he's no slouch on a mountain bike. Last Saturday we rode out to the Colmenar area, not on the bike lane but out in the middle of nowhere, our only companions were dust, bushes, lizards, snakes (luckily we didn't see any), and the blazing sun. So Kona Nut and Interaptor, I've just checked out your post in “Santurio Kona” and it looks great. http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.php?349624-Santuario-Kona/page285 Nice job!
Thank you mr chain ring, yeah thought they may like to see my old konas in that thread. No replys yet though. Very friendly you guys are , thanks for making me welcome. Is there many old frames/bikes or parts for sale over there?,
Well, right here in this very forum there are section for buying and selling bikes and parts, tho I'm not sure how old they are. Here's the general section. http://www.foromtb.com/forumdisplay.php?6-Compra-Venta And here's a sub-forum on hardtail and no-suspension bike frames. http://www.foromtb.com/forumdisplay.php?59-BTT-Sin-Suspensi%F3n-o-Rigidos Here's a section on bike parts. http://www.foromtb.com/forumdisplay.php?24-Venta-Componentes I imagine the language will be a problem, but you can have a look around.
Personally I've never seen a Manitou frame, I think they're mainly known for shocks and forks. http://www.manitoumtb.com/
This is what they look like http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp177/zumbibikes/manitouFS-manitou3.jpg http://www.moredirt.co.uk/bikes/8997.jpg
Oh wow, that's cool. I did not know that. I especially like the first bike, the one with the full suspension.
Yeah they are lovely looking frames , they tended to crack on the headtube but can be repaired. There aren't many about these days. I know a few guys that have a frame and they love them.
Hi! Kona Nut sent me a pm curious about how my Berg looks like Then I realized I hadn´t taken a photo since I bought it, so I did a search on the internet to show him my modest bike with no results at all Sport Zone and Berg seem to just put an end to sell a model like mine!!!. So, no photos available in their pages!. My modest but rare model (haven´t seen another one yet) is becoming rarer, weirder and maybe more exclusive for these reasons!!!. :cuñao So this very morning I took some photos. You never know if your bike is the only one in earth! Here you are, my modest but convenient hybrid: Chainring, a syringe is waiting for you to test!... Cheers!
Wow thank you Angel for posting up a photo of your bike, it looks a very nice bike and ideal for around Madrid. I must say it looks very posh area there, very nice
