Thanks! The bike is new, I'm the first owner, so I get the guarantee. I'll definitely be keeping everybody up-to-date on what's happening. The bike is VERY different from anything I've ever had, so I suppose there's a chance I might not like it, but we'll find out, won't we? But I have the feeling I'm going to love it! Good luck Armentano finding a 29 hardtail. I'm sure you can go cross country as fast as a bullet on one of those.
So MacKem is off testing his new road bike and you´re both on countdown to your bikes!. Armentano is at least 2 years away from getting the 29niner, Chainring is only 7 more sleeps!... What crisis are they talking about? Just a week to go, David! I bet in your spare time you are reading all what you can about the Orbea Rallon! I´m glad to say it’s difficult to find any weaknesses at all when seeing the features of this superb bike. :aplauso4 Just a sample of a client who was lend a Rallon to be tested in the Sierra de Madrid. http://www.mountainbike.es/bijforum/posts/list/18403.page Cheers!
Interaptor I´m with the crisis such as all people. The only reason I will buy a new one it´s because my brother it´s taking my bike the Rush and I sold my old hardtail because I wasn´t been using and now my brother it´s riding a lot, I always bought all my bikes with my brother to use both and he wants a 29 now. I´m going to ride with my rush for a long time, but I´m living between Murcia and Alicante it depend the weekend and on this moments when I take my rush my brother can ride during all this weekend and every time I was riding in Murcia this last four months it was with the racing bike. We need other mountain bike.
By the way, regarding my new bike, it seems there was a misunderstanding: it's not the Rallon 30, but the Rallon X30, which is more enduro oriented. The X30 is still a good deal, but not an absolute steal. By the way, it turns out there's a Rallon R30 as well: until just today I was ignorant of all this. I may be having second thoughts about the X30 because I actually wanted something more all mountain (versatile). But on the other hand, I would really hate to back out after giving my word. http://www.orbea.com/es-es/bicis/modelos/rallon_x30/#presentacion
As I see it, Rallon 30 and Rallon X30 are exactly the same bike to my eyes except for the double 36x22 in the X30 or triple 24x32x42 crankset in the 30, and the specific travel capacity (X30`s 160mm extension vs 30´s 150mm) in the fork. Yeah, X30 is more enduro orientated, but nothing that you can´t change if needed. The difference in wheels and tyres -and some other components- are irrelevant to me. So, being the 36x22 crankset a truly versatile weapon for down and uphill purposes, you´ve to figure out if it’s versatile enough to get in the action, I mean to get in her favorite terrain. And again, even if it turns out that she´s not, you can always change the entire crankset when it´s worn out or whenever you want. It is you who decide, taking also into account the bike´s offer. Don´t worry about second thoughts and the word given. It is you who pay, so the main point here above all is to get a bike that fully meets your needs. Don´t rush on this. Ask whatever you need. 30 and X30 is the same superb bike with slight differences in them. You have to decide what significant difference it makes -to you-. If there is not such difference, Big deal! Otherwise don´t hesitate to tell the seller what your worries are. Armentano, 2 questions for you then. According to your experience, would you say a double 36x22 is versatile enough?. Can you always change the crankset if you need to? Mackem is going on testing his road bike, but if he´s not his experience on this is also welcome!
My experience of such bikes is very little. But looking at those bikes, they are very very similar so If you get the X30 it wouldnt be difficult to change to suit your needs. I'm confused about one thing though, you say the X30 is more Enduro than the 30? To me, it's the opposite, I though Enduro was about riding to the top and then going down again and riding all the bits in between(mountain biking), hence the triple chainset, whereas AM is about riding to the top of a hill a bit slower only to ride faster down the other side with a few jumps, hence the double (with bashguard?) and slightly longer suspension. One thing though, I'd ask them to change the shifters and front mech to SLX, Alivio shouldnt be on a bike of that quality. As for the double chainset, I dont think that will limit you, unless you were trying ride really fast cross-country, in which case you should get a different bike. The lowest gear on the X30 is 22/34 and the 30 it's 24/36 - not a big difference Smart bike though, I dont usually like Orbea bikes because the paint usually looks like it's been done by a colour-blind 6 year old in a dark room.
Hi interaptor and Mackem, both of your comments were really useful and have helped me. And that was a great idea Mackem: maybe they can exchange the shifters and mech for me. As to what all mountain vs enduro is, I understand enduro as going over really rough terrain, often steep with rocks. By the way, I really like visiting this thread for enduro videos. http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.php/61238-Videos-de-Enduro
Thank U Mackem. One day we have to say our word on our road bikes. I give you 2 weeks to get used to yours before any comments on it!. Trek is always a reference out there. Chainring, Concerning that Alivio on a quality bike like that, I´m afraid it´s just Orbea´s extravagance. It is said that Orbea makes excellent bikes but there are always one or two components that can´t rub shoulders with the rest of the bike configuration. This is also the case, it seems to be Orbea´s signature!.MacKem´s idea is cool. Ask for an exchange. LOL a colour-blind 6 yo in a dark room... LOL Who cares if the next painter is Mr. dust and then Mr. mud coming to the rescue!!! Anyway, as we say, "para gustos, los colores!"...Sometimes it´s the price that Orbea has to pay to be such an innovative firm to make their products stand out in the market in some way or another... Enduro, all mountain... It all boils down to up and down mountains!. Don´t know where exactly the difference is, but as you all Know, I´m just a newbie and to me that bike is a real monster to do so.
I contacted the bike shop and they're reluctant to exchange any parts: they say Orbea doesn't allow it, though I don't know how the would find out. I might pressure them a bit more: switching the parts makes all the sense in the world.
It seems like some of the components (those in red below) are allowed to be changed when first ordered, shifters and front mech not included. Your bike seems to be a special offer you found from LBS or from Orbea itself. Nevertheless you could use these forum opinions to make them know how the bike would fully meet your needs as a way of getting the total satisfaction of a client. Even you could email Orbea on the matter to assist you in if possible. If it´s a good deal, you can always do whatever exchanges whenever you want. But as always yours is the last word. In any case, be sure these exchanges do not affect the bike´s guarantee.
I'm back! Went riding today for the first time in six weeks, a fairly easy one just around here, and my calf didn't bother me at all while pedaling. So now I can get back into riding regularly. And in a few days I'll have my new bike: can't wait!
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo (notice there are 27 vowels in the word!) glad to hear that David!. Just in time. Your ok and 5 or 6 days to your new superb bike!!! So happy to see everything’s ok. Today´s ride into the forest. Can´t wait too 4 your 1st. impressions on the X30!!! Cheers!
Sooooooo (just 7 vowels in mine) Interaptor, nice pics. Where did you go? Almost looks like Valdelatas. Went for another short ride today, but this time on my roadie to Colmenar. I've lost a bit of level but I did all right, in fact my average speed was 28.8 km/hr, but that's because coming back I hooked up with a peloton and that really speeds things up. In any case, feeling good. So we'll have to go riding soon, maybe next weekend. I suppose you're back in Madrid.
Ops! Reason for the edition above: vocal is your false friend!. Not yet in Madrid, but my return to the city that also never sleeps is in about 15 days… So I´m also almost back! LOL. As a consequence actually it´s not Valdelatas but a similar forest 60 kmts. away. There are long nice trails over here and I´m not familiar with them all. You know, It´s so easy to get lost when you are in an exploring ride and you don´t know where you are… but it´s so nice to get lost and then back home… Are you keeping your hardtail bike for easy rides around CDC? . Today was my ONLY chance to have kept your pace. How pathetic that sounds!!!. In a week or so you´ll be in such good shape and have such good bike that it will be “mission impossible 4” to follow you!. LOL Cheers.
You're being modest: the last time we went for a ride I remember I had a hard time keeping up with you. But I have to admit that my road bike is a few kilos lighter than yours, so that gives me a BIG advantage. In any case, yes, I'm keeping my Conor for cross country rides. It just need new front forks: I've never liked the Toras, and in any case they're warn out now, so instead of rebuilding them, I prefer to get some better ones. But forks don't come cheap, let me tell you, even modest ones with 100 mm of travel for cross country. I should start looking around for an Epicon, or even Reba (expensive!), or maybe I'll settle for a Recon. The idea is that my new Rallon (still don't have it yet) is more enduro oriented, so my Conor, which is a rally bike, still has a role to play. Makes sense. By the way, soon I'll have 5 bikes! Each one with a different role. Don't want to get rid of any of them, though if I had to part with one for space reasons, maybe I'd get rid of my Commenzal Absolut, which is a jump bike, because that's the one I use the least. In any case, after six weeks of inactivity, it's good to have tired legs again. Makes me feel so much better.
LOL I wouldn´t put my money on me on a road bike vs you on your Conor racing on the road to Colmenar!... Well, just 5 euros just in case!:cerveza Ok, let be serious. That would be a piece of cake... mmm not so sure... Yeah!!! It's a good time to be healthy in good shape. The Rallon is being packing to your hands. One of those trains, planes or trucks from Vigo has your bike in it. By riding that bike it is for sure you gonna see and feel where the money goes. Some time to get used to that monster and you are going to love it! 5 bikes not living in the country side sounds like too much. But according to the specialized world we live in, it´s the right thing to do if you´re keen on the biking world and enjoy it like you do. You are about 4 days to go! The X30 is on its way to you. Cheers.
While the X30 is coming up, see how much of a difference a 160mm Enduro bike makes http://www.foromtb.com/showthread.p...cis-muy-distintas-100m-y-rigida-Y-160mm-y-170 Cheers.
I got my new bike today!! I've only ridden it for a few minutes on the sidewalk and I can tell you it's radically different from my rally bike. Can't wait to try it out! Though I think we may get some rain this weekend. Ver el archivo adjunto 2892919
COOL! Definitely you´ll have so much fun on your lovely aggressive 5th bike!!!. Today is not a good day to test it out. Too much wind, the worst enemy for you to ride and things aren´t looking up. Weather forecast for this weekend goes on wind and rain…but If you are not patient enough to wait for next week, don´t take any results for granted. That bike is made to burn the mountain trails!. Nic e, nice, nice. Congratulations on getting that animal. It is time for U to tame it. WOOOW! BTW I have some special clear vinyl adhesives - from crankskins bike USA- left, little clear discrete pieces to prevent the cables of your bike to rub the frame. Just tell me if you are thinking of such protection on the Orbea or whatever bike you wish.
