Interaptor! now we are talking, do you like this format?

I love it and would like to add a link to the discussion - http://vimeo.com/channels/bigride

There you can see the ''Bigride Avalanche'' Videos, from Tui and Manzaneda! this is what I will be doing in September and would like to do the Alp's mega one next year too along with all the Bigride series, looks so much fun! So yes definitely up for it and just finished the bike I will use today.

WoW! Lovely and powerful blue machine there mate. Congratulations on finishing the bike. It looks strong and rapid, high quality MTB capable to challenge successfully any substrate anywhere out there. Impressive bike you have!

Thank U for the vids. I remember that weekend bike event in Cercedilla. Chain and I passed through the Cannondale´s bigride stands on our way to the Sierras, but it´s a pity we didn´t know what it was and didn´t stop. Btw, the second biker to start in the starting lane is Portuguese Marco Fidalgo, Berg Cycles test man. He´s helping the Sport Zone team to develop prototype bikes and make them competitive.

To be honest, I wish I had your technique to give one of those mega events a ride, but unfortunately it´s out of my range. Chainring´s other story as you can tell.
Anyway, it sounds fantastic what you´re about to do in September. Will you take film out of a camera on the ride?

I doubt I'll ever sign up for any kind of 'serious' race. I'm mainly out there to have fun, besides I'd say my level of fitness and skills is intermediate, and it seems to go as fast as some of those guys are going, you need advanced skills.

Wow, Kansa, that is an awesome looking bike. Very impressive! Would you consider a 'tija pija' (telescopic seatpost) for it? I think I'll get one when I can, tho it'll add some weight to my already hefty bike.

Yeah, maybe you can post some pics so we can see you in action!

There is lots of guy's out there doing gravity enduro for fun only, not worried about the time/result. It is a lot of fun indeed as there is so many like minded riders in one place and time, so it is a great social event too and worth considering on that basis alone. But of course there is a race (or ride) and of course it is always fast when it is gravity assisted.

Here is the story of a young lady setting out to do the megavalanche without much MTB experience either :- http://singletrackworld.com/blogs/2012/03/diary-of-megavalanche-virgin-part-2/

Well, just ordered one a few minutes ago. I'm not a great fan as I learnt to drop and raise them manually years back (lots of teflon grease) with the right clamps. However on this bike the seat post is not full length so I'm going to need one for those events more as I don't have the room in the tube for the range needed.

Yeh, it will but ''weight'' is something way, way over rated, imho, unless it is in the wheel, hub, tyre's area where it makes a huge difference for me. It is really annoying to have to add it in the high up area of the seat post. I'll use the thompson normally and then the tija pija for enduros I guess.

No, wont be using a go-pro thing there a little to expensive for me to justify and those events have some decent coverage in terms of photos etc.

Now I'm clocking up some KM's on the bike, I think I may get away without a tija pija. I tend to ride and peddle standing a lot of the time so can run a seat quite low anyway going to try a little off the bottom of the post and hope I don't have to fit that telescopic as 600 grammes is a hell of a lot to add for something I don't personally find that useful. If I'm climbing hard its nearly always standing with just some rests on the seat. Fingers crossed I don't have to run one.

Hmmm, actually I really like the idea of a tija pija. I also think I sit down a lot more than you, in fact here's a picture of a ride I was on last Sunday, with Interaptor by the way, where you have to pedal about 14 km uphill from Cercedilla to the Fuenfría mountain pass. After that you have very cool single track downhills, but there are transitional sections where you have to pedal so you'd really like to have the seat up.

Is that the interaptor in front!

Well, I've brought one, a reverb so will see how I get on with it. I could not quite get the height right to get safely onto the rear wheel so not much choice with the interupted seat tube on the commencal. They are just such a lot of money grrr.

 instead of Tija Piga's, someone needs to invent a portable cheap chairlift we fire up into the mountains and voila!

No, thats David leading the pack to the top!

LOL. To do things on the fly or not to do them that way?. Concerning a Tija Pija that is the question. I´m just a XC biker and I presume TP´s are not 4 me...
Anyway, as Chainring said, last Sunday we passed through different technical sections and we had to up and down the seat post several times...

This is me on the right.

You can let us know how the Reveb works out. Coincidentally one of the guys on our ride has a Reverb and it bit the dust the day before the ride, but it's still under guarantee.

Speaking of chairlifts, they may not be necessary because it's looking like electric bikes might be the next big thing. In ten years the cool thing may be enduro bikes with electric motors, so you can zip up the hills and then have fun going down the single tracks. To me it seems a bit like cheating because you relish the trails more after doing all the hard work of getting to the top, and you stay fit!

Speaking of fit, after our pit stop in La Fuente de la Reina, Interaptor suddenly seemed to come to life. He suddenly passed me up and told me he was feeling great :platano So to what do you owe this sudden explosion of energy and vitality? Can I have some too ;)

P.S The third picture from the top above is of Nacho.

Here's an interesting video explaining how the Netherlands got their very successful bicycling culture.

This is what annoys me so much about these things, there is not one I researched that was not prone to failure's. Kinda ridiculous and very annoying indeed. They are stupidly expensive, but I guess that is due to funding all the warranty claims..

I love Human Powered, something special about the MTB for me and always has been. I wont be using any electric motors thats for sure, totally agree with you. I ride to keep fit, for fun and we dont need 'more manufacoring' of any types of engines, any production of such makes for more pollutants and problems...and of course they will all be imported using exploitative manufacoring practises. What we do need is more people cycling, fitter healthier people, less pollution, less production and less importation..

Phew, I thought you had changed the bars on the bike for the downhill! haha maybe thats another thing coming? telescopic bars? flick the switch for the tija pig from XC mode and out pops the bars to 780mm for the gravity and tech areas, lol

Want my giant reign frame? put your parts on and you can chase chainring down as well as up then too :)

Nice photo's, it does look a lovely place to ride.

Guess I'm the guy with the broken Reverb. Probably the most reliable seatpost are Gravity Droper but they are uglier than a fridge back (and mechanical, so, not really smooth)

Anyway, my LBS called me yesterday because they have received it back from RockShox Warranty.

Honestly, I think I´m just a XC biker and that´s it but maybe if I had a better bike I´d be able to ride much easier on that terrain. I have to give it a thought... Will an enduro bike make me an enduro biker???!. By now, riding on rocky terrain is a real torture for me. R you gonna sell it?

Absolutely right. Little by little we are achieving positive results. More political implication is needed.
I took this photo this very morning. Ana Botella (Madrid´s Mayor) and Pedro Delgado (ex Tour de France winner) are supporting disabled biker Diego Ballesteros in his route from Madrid to London on hand-bike.

    Cheers!

Well it is good to know the factory warranty is working I guess, lol. Hope I wont need it fingers crossed.

I think you answered it. Really you are the engine, and I don't think the bike makes the rider. However, it sure makes it a hell of a lot easier and faster over tough terrain. Enduro riding on a hardtail is hardwork having to be very wary of lines and every detail, when on a full suspension enduro type you can just ride straight through. The bike helps you, not fights you. My local route I ride daily is so hard over the techy rocks on the hardtail, the back end always fighting to lift, or go another direction. On the enduro bikes its just a breeze even at speed and does not take so much out of you.

Yes, going to sell the Giant Reign, shock, wheels etc and not expensive. I think I said before how good a frame (i think) they are for enduro type riding as they are so efficent peddling. I have to have a clearout of my workspace and the Giant and Trek hardtail will be sold as I just do not use them anymore and need the space. I will PM you, as I wanted to ask you to check my Spanish if you could for posting some parts and things I want to clear out if you would not mind, I would really appreciate it as you know, a little wrong word can make things so wrong.

    That is wonderful!

Yes it would be great to see the goverments pushing and providing incentives for cycling. They are in England with the ride to work scheme, with the ''ride to work scheme'' but there should be more done. It's a planet saver, people save and therefore priceless.

    Yay human powered!

Wow, 'pedaling' with your arms for 1,800 km. I'm speechless... Sure would hate to have a horrible accident like him and be maimed for life.

I'm thinking of getting a KS (eventually) because I hear it's good. BTW, I imagine everyone's seen the thread 'Censo de Tijas Pijas'.

Yeh seen it. Weird with these things, like no concensus of opinions on what works and what does not..failure and problems rates with these things is crazy.
