Back in forums. Yeah, people are awesome and it´s quite simple to enhance your performance just by adding a pinch of passion to what you do. Dull people may have inmaculate desks, but passionate people not only will inspire you, they´ll make you feel passionate about living!. Take a look at this long thread and see how passionate is a guy about his new bike. This is what our sport is all about: passion. So guys, Let passion cram into you! :eek:la2

Wow, that guy really is passionate about his Colnago. It reminds you of what beautiful machines bikes are and how joyful it is just to pedal one. I imagine we'll be seeing lots more bike passion when spring rolls around. For me it's not seasonal: I go all year round!

BTW, looks like the rain may be finally letting up (tho maybe rain on Sunday), so hopefully we'll go on some good rides this week.

We seem to have had the best weather oop north. Glorious day Saturday, warm and sunny. Unfortunately my new hanger is still en route from USA so it had to be a road ride on Saturday.
100km round the coast. Was nice.

Yes, not bad: my guru weather forecast site predicts temperatures below zero but sun for Friday, mainly cloudy but no rain for Saturday, another nice breezy and rainy day for Sunday. That´s to say time for rock and roll!!!. Starting on Friday I´ll be up for whatever ride out there. And man, with that passion running through his veins I couldn´t help reading the whole thread and looking forward to our next ride!

Mmmm... By seeing Mackem´s photo and that lovely Trek I wanna construe his last words. Not unfortunately my friend. If your new hanger weren´t still en route, you´d definitely had missed the opportunity to ride your roadie. It´s not just nice. Sometimes It´s nicer than riding your MTB and boy, for sure in your case, cleaner !!!. BTW why are you ordering from US?

    Cheers!

100 km around the coast: sure sounds scenic and beautiful!

Inter, it's looking like we'll at least get out on our road bikes on Friday. I really hope the weather's OK for Sunday as well cos I'd like to go enduro riding. Last Sunday everything was muddy so just went to the Casa de Campo.

"why from the US?" - It's the only place I can find my particular gear hanger. Chumba dont seem to be very common in Europe.

I see.Your hanger in the middle of the ocean in its way to you... That´s the price of having exclusive stylish but froward parts not so easy to get in Europe. Hope the wait is over soon.

Through thick and thin, but I´m too lazy to clean my bike from mud, guys. I even feel lazy to see Mackem´s Chumba or Jorge´s Alma full of mud. That´s why I sometimes refuse to mountain biking on mud when road biking is such a clean activity!. But I guess Chain´s case was different last Sunday when he was eager to ride his Rallon no matter the mud in CDC to see if everything was OK after scheduled manteinance. Did you do a good work Chain?

I see your point Inter, and I remember some reasons to avoid mud. That is paramount when you're riding in Alcala area... Mud is so sticky that after getting into it is almost impossible to continue riding because the common result is both of the wheels totally blocked, even the jockey wheels!

But depending on the place, mud is not always like that. Sometimes it just pushes you to the limit of your control skills, enjoying incredible drifts. And is not so tedious to remove... I'll show you some items of the latter.

These ones are from Cantabria. I also have some examples of the first mud type, but I need to find them.

Yeah Mario! How gross! I´m wondering if I´m too posh pig-headed to be a real biker and should stop thinking of mud as an enemy, but by now I try to go straight pass any little mud puddle on my way. I´m sure pigs can distinguish from different types and subtypes of mud and by beeing mud lovers at heart they could tell us what´s in the mud in Alcala that makes it so sticky... As you can tell, I´m not a real expert on mud, but on how to escape from it!.

That is something easy to answer. The terrain in Alcalá is 98% clay, which all of us know how that deals with water... The perfect mixture for making ashtrays, bricks and all that stuff, isn't it?

In la Sierra for example is totally different. Of course you'll get full mud, but even like this you'll enjoy your ride anyway, because with only hosing down the bike, you want even remember to have dealt with it!

Yeap, that has a lot of sense to me. In any case, my perfect weapon against mud is this one:

    Imagen 014_600_450.jpg

Notice the red bike lane filled with smashed bricks made from mud from Alcala!. You know, here´s a nice twin peaks, mud is necessary for me to avoid mud ;-)

Yes, it is. Well, in other words it´s our Friday door to door track from home to the Sierras. No car needed if you´re willing to ride around 50Kmts there and then back home. That´s a 100Kmts ride mostly on safe bike lanes like this one!. Love it.
But you can´t complain at all. You´ve got a hometrainer to avoid mud and be in peak condition on your own!!! 8)

    Cheers!

Actually I took my old Diamondback. I try to stay off the asphalt on my mountain bikes because the tires are designed for traction, not rolling, which means asphalt wears them out prematurely. And tires are so expensive nowadays. In any case, I barely touched dirt and mud on my hybrid. Still haven't tested my Rallon, hopefully that'll be next Sunday, tho for the moment the forecast is still for some rain on that day. BTW, I got together with Rod who you can see in the pic, and you can see he doesn't tend to leave people indifferent.

That looks like some yucky, icky mud. Yeck! I'm with Inter, try to avoid the stuff, but sometimes you just can't. For example this Sunday I REALLY want to go for a ride, so I'm probably just going to have to take my chances. Can't say I like the stuff much, but after comparing it with Alcala mud, now I know it's really not so bad.

Yeah, many riders here combine sneakers with bikes, but I bet almost nobody could do the same with Old English literature and fad slang words as you do. You don´t care that much about standard English. Man, that´s pretty funny of you. ;-)

@Inter you can count on me, I almost broke into tears when I so those pics full of mud... My poor little thing! no way! And sometimes it happens (but not so intense) in summer, when there is dust all along and few showers fall, but as I say it's not that much!!!
@Chain my dad has the same Diamond Back, I thought it wasn't a popular brand in Spain, indeed our dear local dealer had to close some years ago! I was considering using it in my home trainer, but as it's a 29er I'm not that much confortable...

BTW, I had a free trial week at a gym (I cancelled my membership 2 years ago...) and they have two spinning bikes that look alike bkool, they have tv's attached (haven't look at them really close) but they look really wicked! Maybe on Friday if I get to go there in the morning I'll give them a try when I got there yesterday it was too crowded and I'm too shy to that...

Rod's just released his second CD as a solo artist called Hard Times, it's really good but not all that uplifting, about the injustices of society, the haves and the have-nots. A third one is on the way, I think mainly with love songs and such, and a fourth is in the pipe line.

Is that a pun? 'peddle' an ideology or 'pedal' bikes, those two words are pronounced the same so I thought maybe there was a joke in there.

Your dad has one too! Cool! Yeah, you don't see too many of them around, kinda makes me feel special, have a lot of good memories on that bike, went around the Anillo Verde about 50 times on it when they first opened it. Your dad and I are probably both bike veterans, we'd probably get on like a house on fire!

Am going for a quick run myself, it's a fast workout, at least my runs don't last too long, not exactly doing a marathon.
