chain don't count its durability in terms of time but in terms of working hours..... and fix it soon and cheap! :D

your 11 months can probably be 4 years for a weekend rider......

Yeah, SWH. It stands for legal term "Standard Working Hours"! and man, the Rallon´s work consists mostly of taking off, flying and landing... a very hard work that requires continuous, ongoing maintenance work from fearless main pilot in command, Mr. Chainring! ;-)

I took off the bottom bracket this morning and went by Bicimanía, the mechanic agrees that it's completely worn out, so I bought a new one, just 22 euros. I suppose I give my bike plenty of use but I didn't think something like the bottom bracket would wear out so soon.

Maybe I'll flatter myself and say it's because of my exceptionally powerful legs, ha ha, but then again it might be planned obsolescense, things just aren't designed to last too long. Well, things are really light on bikes too, but tend to wear out quickly.

A split second? Those two pics are the short version of it all, Chain. Let´s take a closer look of the whole story inside your flying machine before, during and after the jump. Not so easy as it looks!

I think the last of the chorizo left my body yesterday. I went for a ride, so feeling better. I'll definitely be going back to Alcala, It's a nice place, near to Madrid, good riding straight out the door and cheap food. I need to find a job. I might go back in the Summer for a short break.

As Guardia Civil is taking more seriously fining people for carrying bikes on the trunk I wish to find places to go closer to my place... And appart from Pardillo, Cañada, Colmenarejo... I wish to also to go the other side ;)

I'm not that familiar with that side of El Pardo but I would think you could easily get into the Casa de Campo and then go from there.

I installed the new bottom bracket this morning! I really love doing mechanical work myself because, besides saving money, you really get a feeling a satisfaction :aplauso4

I don´t get it, Red. As far as I know and compared to us, you already live so close to the countryside that it´s very likely you don´t need to drive your car whenever you wanna ride your bike on the dirt, do you?. Isn´t El Pardo within a short riding -even walking- around?. Haven´t you ever been there before? Do you always go by car elsewhere? It takes us some time to get there and we always go by bike.
The most convenient entrance for us in Madrid is via C/ Braojos. Haven´t any clue of where is the closest spot to an accesible entrance for U since I´m step-by-step adding new routes to my ever-expanding mtb network. Now exploring nice and safety routes just south of you in Eurovegas, Ciudad de la Imagen, Montes de Boadilla, Brunete and Pozuelo de Alarcón. Mountain biking is a great way of discovering new places nearby and I´m taking advantage of it!.

Oh what a cute piggy there, Chain!!!, anyway if your a vegetarian you may love animals, but what about plants... you hate them??? (just a philosophical question) ;-) Good to know you didn´t have to take your bike to the shop!. Well, except for certain work, maintenance on a bike is easy to perform. Let´s see on Sunday how it works! But 1st-ly we have to (and this time I mean it!) ride our road bikes!!! :)

    Cheers!

Hey, we should all get together sometime for an XC ride in El Pardo!

Vegetarians basically eat lower life forms like plants, fruit, and vegetables, better to avoid killing and eating anything with eyes and all that.

I am going to ride El Pardo Friday morning from about 8:30 to 10:30 if anyone is interested to join! I'd love some company!

Also, on an unrelated note, I am traveling to Switzerland for about a week (from May 10th-May 16th) and would love to do some mtn biking in the swiss alps. Does anyone know anything about riding the Swiss Alps in mid-May? I talked to a guy who worked for a mtn bike guide company and he sounded pretty pessimistic about riding during mid-May because of the snow. Any suggestions?

Oh and is anyone going to ride somewhere on Saturday or Sunday with lots of rocks, roots, and other technical stuff? I have been itching to ride some of the rough stuff, but don't know where any of it is!

Casa de Campo it's almost two hours away from my place, by the time I get into El Pardo I'll have to go back home xDDD which is what usually happends whenever I go to Barrio del Pilar by bike...

I can see El Pardo from my windows, but it's impossible to get through it, as the fence hasn't got a single hole all the way here, as far as I know, due to it's vicinity to La Zarzuela...I tried to ride close to El Barrial and try to skip the fence but it was impossible... Maybe you'd know somewhere close to the "ghost" train station El Tejar some spot to skip the fence... but here I've been able to ride safely to Puerto de la Cruz verde via Valdemorillo, Casa de Campo-Dehesa de la Villa, Villaviciosa de Odón-Brunete, Villanueva del Pardillo-Colmenarejo, Villanueva del Pardillo-Valmayor, Las Matas-Hoyo de Manzanares. But as El Pardo would be the only place where I won't be riding on the road and just following paths I'd love to get inside.

Call me sissy, but I'm still a girl xDDD

Are you taking your bike with you??? by plane???? I used to live in Alpnach dorf, by Mount Pilatus, it was beautiful and there were plenty of trails to ride, but I bet you won't be going there, as is in the middle of nowhere... have fun!!

No, I hope I can sell my bike before I travel because once I leave Spain I am going to travel around Europe for a few weeks and then head back to the states. So no, I will not have my bike. I am flying into Geneva and from there I want to take a train to get out of the city and into the countryside (although I am not exactly sure where I want to go yet, I am still researching cool places to ride/see). So I am absolutely open to suggestions...
