Really nice, David. In the end sunday was the right day to ride your bike, beacause it was a really sunny day and, after a strongly rainy week, that's enough to get away from home to enjoy some slightly muddy terrain, isn't it? In our case, Jorgt and I decided to wear our running shoes in order to have some good and fast moments in the middle of the main city! We started with a "warm up" in el retiro, 10 km for Jorgt and 4 km for me. It was like a kind of an obstacle race to dodge soooo many participants, but on the second one we picked up our reward, because it was an exclusively feminine race :alloreto It was a tough one because of the slopes, but in the end we enjoyed a really good race, and now I'm dashed to pieces without any interest on using my running shoes again!
Sounds pretty cool. So you were participating in a running event for amateurs, and you ended up with the women. Hmm, doesn't sound bad. Maybe sometime I'll get into running a bit more seriously, like the girls in the pic, ha ha.
It seems like there are running events everywhere you go!. Yesterday I did go for a ride to Casa de Campo, stopped at some point and heard military songs in the distance coming up... It turned out to be the Carrera Cívico-Militar en contra de las drogas in which corps and troops were inviting people to join them to run and sing those funny military cadence calls, kinda call and respond work songs we can see on the movies ;-).
Hey those 2 girls can much of pannel you harshly! -Inter you're right there are plenty of races all along Madrid, it's a city that actually never stops I love it! Quoting Mario.... Yup, too overcrowded it was but what the hell we did run without being enroled, jolly roger ahoy!!! And according to what I expected, did a nice performance and finished swiftly, no cramps today which stands for a gorgeous recovery, in fact it was 15 kms in two stints but meant some tiredom
Yeah, that's true, when you're traveling around Madrid, seems you 'run into' running events everywhere, but the one with military cadence calls sounds more original than most, and maybe more fun, at least for a while. For the moment it looks the weather will be OK for our ride next Friday. It's a holiday as well so I'm wondering if that means more or less traffic, or more or fewer people coming with us. You must be using some advanced slang here, but those girls can do anything they want to me, including running a lot faster and farther, which would probably be the case. Probably couldn't catch them, ha ha. Sounds like you may be ready for a duathlon. And if you can swim well too, a triathlon or even an Ironman event. That would be cool, tho in my case I barely have time for biking, so that'll have to do. On another note, I peeked at your mañanas complutense page and saw you're going for a VERY cool ride in Cercedilla on Saturday. You just have to be careful going down el Gallo cos it's a stream when it rains, and that means it might well be wet and slippery. But it probably won't be bad cos it shouldn't be raining these days. But still, proceed with caution. In any case, looks like a really good ride. I might even want to come along except that I can't do anything like that on Saturday cos I work in the afternoon. So have fun!
You bet it is. Not only did El Gallo exceed my own expectations as far as its beautifulness but by far the most tricky and easiest way to kill a biker if he´s not into enduro or he´s not riding a doble boinger and wanna keep a good pace. I was on the verge of falling down, twice, my chainrings at jeopardize of being destroyed by the stones, my bike roaring all the way down as I was overpushing the brake levers, too much going on at once. In fact, I had neither the skills nor the right bike to go down there. That´s why I guess it´s a pleasure for enduro bikers to go ride over there. I´ve always considered swimming and cycling, in that precisely order, to be the most healthy sports in the world, so duathlons for me would be designed to suit just swimmers and bikers taste! ;-) Cool! Our Friday road bike day will be sunny and seasonable warm. Yessssss! Pd.- Ever wonder how long it takes for a biker to begin to lose strength when not riding and how bad it is?. Chema Arguedas tells us ;-) http://www.ciclismoafondo.es/entren...a/articulo/cuanto-pierdo-al-dejar-de-entrenar Cheers!
Seems that after 10 days you start losing your physical condition. I once heard that once you're in shape, if you work out just once a week, you can basically maintain it. Actually I know a guy (several guys actually) who only rides on Sundays, and he does really well considering that. I myself try to ride two or three times a week and go jogging once. On the other hand, if you're injured, typically recovery takes six weeks (at least for me), and that's just long enough to get completely out of shape. Actually I think the temperature's dropping a bit. It's the kind of weather where it's too cold for summer clothes but not really cold enough for the full-on winter stuff. Maybe I'll wear two light jerseys, and put away the fingerless gloves and wear the normal kind, but that are still well ventilated.
Yeah, Autumn! Changing colors, dropping temperatures... but sunny and cool weather makes us not know how to properly dress for riding. Too many clothes and once we get on our bikes we get hot, too few and we freeze. We need some strategy for good comfort and not worry about getting overheated. Dressing in light layers as you say is the best way to go. it´s not winter yet, so we can add and remove bike clothes as our body heats up/cools off. In this scenario, the problem with a roadie is lack of space to stow a conventional bike luggage... unless you add a rear rack to your carbon fiber roadie... Not cool? ;-) Anyway, seeU tomorrow! Pd.- Bigsome´s in Kenya. Chris Froome homeland. Returning to Madrid on Nov 11th. ;-)
Not a bad road bike day today: Ride´s distance: 100kmts. Average Speed: 30.1Kmts/h. ;-) Ver el archivo adjunto 3580963 Cheers!
We're not getting older, we're getting better! On the other hand, we're not getting any younger, ha ha. In any case, yes, good ride! If we get any better we're going to have to participate in something like Quebrantahuesos. Actually if I ever to decide to put my endurance to the test, think I'd rather do a cross country race, that way I'll have some chances to fall down. That reminds me, when I got home today my wife asked me if I'd fallen down. Don't know what make her think that, but I explained to her that I've never fallen on my road bike (touch wood). I do all my falling on my mountain bike when I'm reaching for my limits.
What you said about going on the other side of the hill is something a friend of mine said: no me hago viejo, la ropa es vieja yo me hago mayor. Well there are plenty of idioms and refranes related to age, and they are really witty , do not hesitate to show us some David!! And now I'm so glad of watching you reaching the 100 kms milestone both of you are working out hard. And as you broke into our Mañanas Complutenses thread i feel free to ask you a few questions... Do you think Loma del Noruego is a wicked evil trail?? Any mixed feelings about Calzada Romana? I'm looking forward if we happen to meet up in the Sierras someday. PS: Put off that road riding PPS: If you feel like QH riding take a look at Perico Delgado tour, closer, and pretty nice. Perhaps I'll be ther in 2k14 ¿?
Haven't been there, but after watching the video of it (on your thread), I think I'll give it a miss. That's exactly what I don't like: loose rocks everywhere. Actually I haven't done the route the way you did it. Once you've done the Gallo I normally turn left and head up a long asphalt road to the Fuente de la Reina that people call Mortirolo; tho once we turned right and went along for a few km, then turned off to the left and went up the Camino Viejo del Paular; I thought it was a fun, challenging uphill. So, your merry men returned to la Fuenfría and then went down the Calzada Romana. I think I know that trail, at least once we went down a trail from la Fuenfría they called the Puntos Verdes. Maybe it's the same one, for a while it goes alongside and just below the Crta de la República, it has a pretty rocky beginning. It wasn't too bad, a bit rocky, not as good as the Veredas. The Puricelli's nice to start off with, but then I suppose the Ctra de la República is boring. It would be an interesting challenge to get all the way up to la Fuenfría without rolling on the Ctra. Uh, you're only as old as you feel... you're only as old as the woman you feel
This really is one of the nicest times of the year to go to the Sierras. In this pic it's 9:00 am and we're just starting out. Here you can see in the background that Madrid is covered in fog, but in the Sierras the air is fresh and clear. It really was beautiful.
WOW! Very nice photo with Madrid lost in a sea fog in the distance!. Not far away though, they are worlds apart in terms of weather and temperatures. In fact It was foggy all the morning long here but cleared up at noon, the sun shone slightly the rest of the day. You´re right, this is the time to ride before winter comes and the snow in the Sierras flies. We´re lucky to have some alternatives for not so fair weather but for now ride and see the birds in the Sierras while the weather is still for the birds!. ;-)
You know next Saturday is la Almudena, and that means it's a holiday in Madrid, I'm not sure if that's the city of Madrid or the whole region. In any case, maybe we could head for the Sierras, if we're not too tired after Friday's ride on road bikes. But actually I think JC said he could only go for a short ride, so maybe we could take it easy on Friday and do something like Cercedilla-Madrid on Saturday. Or something else, any ideas?
I´m looking forward to doing it, but I´m afraid i´ll be off the radar for a few days, -including my beloved road bike day and Saturday- and have no chance of being with you to have fun on our bikes. Anyways, anyways, anyways... I´m planning a revenge to make up for these two missing days!!!. ;-)
Well, that's bad luck. But like you say, you can come back strong next time. Check out this video. This chick rocks!
hi how are you?? How you feel about new changes..... I'm a bit out of place but hoping to get used to .
I'm finding all this a bit confusing, but I guess we'll just have to get used to it. I suppose now it's 'lighter' and I suppose that means faster. They got rid of loads of pages everywhere, about a hundred here, about a thousand over there at mañanas complutenses. Also seems we've lost the pictures and videos around here, and I've gone from 'forum addict' to 'new member' Well, apparently they're still working on this.
Breaking news: Juan Carlos got a flat tire today! Whoa! We were out at Mataelpino when it happened. You know, I haven't had a flat for ages. Really surprising. I suppose this means I'm next. So far the new system isn't exactly the most intuitive I've ever used. Hard to figure out how to do basic things like upload pictures. Don't think it's working now.
