C´mon Kona! Being sad is not good for a human being. No bike whatever lovely and value it is deserves that sadness. You have to psychologically overcome that circumstance. It´s you first above all. Kona is just an excuse to make you happy. If you´re sad mate, better not to collect anything!. It should always be this way when you are into something that passionate. Your Konas make you happy, but don´t let your passion take control. Enjoy what you have achieved till now, don´t be sad on what is not. Think about it. Besides, If you get everything that makes you happy, once you have it, your passion is over. So It´s good for a collector not to have everything in order to maintain his passion alive!.

Just an idea: why don´t you get a cheap second hand MTB to go hard ride while you keep your valuable old-school Konas safe at home from hard work?

    Nice place you live in!.

I´m going greener and hippie-greener: Going to get a "TRANSPORTIN JUNSUN" or a "Junsun Rack" for my hybrid... Hand-made here in Madrid (Bicicritica) specifically for each bike from recyclable bike wheels and mounted by his inventor, a engineer by the name of Junsu.

Emailed him this weekend and found a very friendly person, passionate as well on bike mechanics. So I reserved one aluminum hand-made rack…

Take a look at this, this racks are also Old-school!

Nice bike rack you're getting, tho it looks like it might be a wee on the heavy side, but definitely cool, and green!

Yeah, didn’t ask for the weight, but the idea for this rack is to be removable… Just for some special occasions where I need the panniers mounted on the bike. So, I´m afraid to say that I will ride greenish once in a blue moon…

It´s said this rack is capable of almost any weight, according to what the owners say, the limit is … the frame itself!. And the Super-Junsun (!!!) model is even tougher and heavier cause it´s made of steel!. This is not old-school, this is real prehistory from Bedrock City!!! :qmeparto You can´t think of a better way to make things!

I´ll check it out when I have mine and tell you about it!

    Cheers!

It´s time for my chain to be changed. Wouldn´t like to procrastinate on this, It´s already some millimeters longer than it used to be and my transmission could begging to be affected by elongation if I persist on keeping it. Better to change it just in case. Will also change chain brand to SRAM with a powerlink to easily take it off and clean it in a deeper way, well… my own way as you know.

I´ve been half a year into this, changed (I hope for better) a lot the way I clean and lubricate the chain. In the beginning I used to use Weldtite´s TF2 lube and KH7 cleaner. Now I´m using kerosene (UK paraffine) to clean the chain up and a syringe to drop by drop inject sewing machine oil. For a road use I found this method to be convenient, clean, smooth, inexpensive and effective.

Maintenance is vital for our bikes to always be ready to use. But sometimes it´s not good for us to meet other people. I mean, How many times have you stopped to help another biker? As far as I remember 8 times in six months… Especially when it comes to female bikers and mechanic, they tend to be careless on maintenance, so your probabilities to meet a pretty witty biker girl are considerably high! Yesterday I came across a female biker with a pedal in her hand! Obviously I wasn´t that helpful this time but had a pleasant conversation not only about bikes!...

I remember some guys having dogs just to meet female owners in their neighborhood. Never heard of a bike as a key to meet them, but I guess it works…
The moral of the story is, In your rides shouldn´t always do proper maintenance or you may miss a great opportunity. On second thoughts I´ll keep my old chain mounted for a while... :)

    Cheers!.

    LOL

Can anyone be nuts about inexpensive Bergs? What I really like about them is what you get for the dollar -well, the euro-. Of course there are some expensive models from Berg that can rub shoulders with the most repute brands you can get. A Viper frame is as much expensive as a top of top one from Kona… but I as an economist am fascinating about efficiency in prices, materials and such that things that people don´t use to take into account that much.

Actually most of the people are fascinated with specifications. I´m interested in the process of making things, the intelligence output behind a product or that little thing that makes something –or a brand- different from the rest. Berg has the ability to make bikes in a very competitive but quality way, but of course, that is not enough for me to be nuts about them!!! I´m sure Kona nut´s passion for Kona’s is deep inside, just the other way around.
I guess mine is the heterodox approach to be nuts about something…

I had my say as a Berg owner!

    Cheers!.

Well, If I went to my doctor and said to him my name is Interaptor, he wouldn´t take me serious at all!. Your nick is your introduction!
I took mine from a mixture of two words, one of which I don´t even remember, the other one is Velociraptor. Just making fun of my hybrid...

Jon is a pretty common name. Here in Spain we have some variations on this name, such as Juan (standard name), Joan (catalonian), Jon (vasco), or Xoan (gallego)... Congratulate your father and mother on this name. It sounds good whatever the variation.

Mine is Ángel... What do a Devon inhabitant think when he hears that name? A female name???. Here in Spain (Ángel) or Italy (Angelo) it´s not!!! :fumador

Yeah, it´s funny how names vary from one country to another… Talking about footballers, did you Know Kaka in spanish sounds really bad if you change the accent (or even without changing it ) when saying it? Yeap. It means SHIT.
(Well, his season was a Kaka, so not very unfamiliar this meaning to him :angel)

There are some other examples this fun I have in the tip of my mouth…

    Cheers!.
