The most notorious thing not to have been missed this week was the Great Match!. (Madrid-Barcelona). BTW, we won...

Ok, MMPCC or Madrid Melting Pot Cyclist Club is the name of all those foreign people in this forum who are willing to join us when possible!.

    Cheers!

Nope. My neighbor is a kiwi, but he's into surfing! I was raised in Miami and spent some time in Arizona and New York.

Thanks for recommendation. If you know of any club that is less on the competitive side and more on the recreational/exercise side please let me know. Really, I'm just looking to spin my legs and fight the effects of Spain's delicious jamon and vino!

Let me know when the next ride is and I'll drive up to m607.

Yeah, hope we can all get together soon: maybe Sunday. By the way, Ivancho, there's a special road biking section in this forum and one part is for get-togethers (Rutas y Marchas). You might want to look around there or even open your own thread to see what kind of response you get. Here's the link.

To be honest I'm getting pretty fed up with whoever's in charge of the weather. I was really hoping for a long weekend of biking adventures. Instead I'll probably have to do minimal rides around the neighborhood to stay in shape.

It sounds like a nice idea but I probably won't be able to make it: Friday is my road biking day! But maybe we can all meet up some Sunday in the Casa de Campo.

Here's a pic of my ride on Monday with guys from my neighborhood (Sanchinarro, Las Tablas, Montecarmelo). We rode to Valdeleganar near Colmenar Viejo. It had rained the night before so it was on the muddy side, but it was a beautiful day and the air was fresh and clean. A great ride!

By the way, I'm the one in the red jersey.

    Hi ironxx,

Welcome to the English-speaking part of the forum. So you're going to Barcelona: maybe you can go running while you're there to stay in shape. I suppose it's not convenient to take your bike with you and experience cycling in Cataluña. It'd be fun to travel around Spain (and the world) and ride in all sorts of places.

I personally am into mountain biking and road biking. I actually have a hybrid bike and a jump bike as well, but my jumping is fairly modest: don't do the dangerous stuff.

So tell me more specifically where in the mountains around Madrid you go riding.

    Cheers!

Just want to say that it was really nice finally meeting Interaptor in person today, especially since we've been online pals for a while. And great meeting Ivancho too, who came along on his road bike. I myself made use of my old hybrid.

We basically rode on asphalt and went to the Deca bike ride in San Sebastián de los Reyes. There was a huge turnout, I'm sure the nice weather after the rain had something to do with that. There must have been about a thousand people out. As Interaptor said, biking is really beginning to catch on in Spain. Yay!!

After riding with you two, I went on to the Casa de Campo and rode a bit with a friend there, so I left home at 10:00 and didn't get back again till about 5:00 – that's a pretty long ride. But my bike computer said I'd been pedaling for five hours and 15 minutes and had gone a hundred kilometers. A good ride and beautiful weather!

By the way, when I got home I cleaned up and lubricated my bike, and I found that the front derraileur cable was fraying, so I put on a new one. I also used my chain checker and found it's already time to replace the chain. I'm sure it must not have more than a thousand kilometers on it, but since I mainly use that bike for doing hills, I obviously wear out chains fast.

Anyway, a nice ride; but it seems like we should have taken a picture of us so we could post it here. Alas, I don't have a camera. Also next time I'm going to have to twist Interaptor's arm a bit to get him speaking in English more. By the way, if you want to come along on our Friday road bike rides, like I said it's at 9:45 and leaving from the same place.

    Cheers!

Great meeting both of you as well. It was nice riding in a small group. Since I've been riding in Spain it has been a lot of solo rides.

Will see what I can do to join you on Fridays. However, I think I need to train more. When it was all said and done yesterday I had riden 80 km in just under 4 hours. My longest ride since I've been here in Spain and I was exhausted when I got home and still feeling tired.

Keep me in the loop if there are any other weekend rides. See you guys soon. By the way, great pic in your prev. post.

Ok guys. Pleased to meet you. As expected, both of you are pleasant, gentle and very nice people. I hope we can get together in a weekly basis –I certainly need extra training to put in more than 85 kmts. And that was the exact number that my computer indicated after the ride!. My particular Man of the Hammer seems to have a preference to visit me over that distance (even before when dehydrated), so I was about to be hammered when I somehow could manage to hide from him. But he doesn’t allow me to go any further. Anyway, great ride, nice weather and pleasant company… Thank you guys.

Chainring is really in a very good shape. He has strong legs to push (Oh my God, it was just a Hybrid… I can´t imagine what he is capable of riding his rodie!). Against the wind, without an aero position (my greatest handicap, headwind) he can lead the “pack” at a very respectful speed. I tried just to follow him. For now, when it comes to fight against wind I´d better go home!... :).
Ivantraf did a spectacular exhibition on our way back. His “Café de Colombia” jersey seemed to give him wings to lead us during the last part of the ride, just the most demanding in terms of effort. He pushed really hard considering his lack of previous training and the (yeah, It´s my enemy) headwind we suffered at the end. Great job, Ivan!.

So, MMPCC (Madrid Melting Pot Cycling Club) has been inaugurated and it´s open to everyone in here!. Feel free to join us. Our motto is… ARE YOU A KIWIRIDER???. We need you!.
    :)
But if not, you are welcome to join us every Friday or Sunday you can.

Next guys to be with us: Ironxx & Peter.
    PD.- Peter, U there? :)

See You guys. ThanK U for a pleasure biking day and your time! . We´ll get together when possible. You can count on this.

PD.- Don´t worry Chain, Next time I´ll take a camera with me...

Today we went to the Puerto de Navacerrada on our road bikes and I got about as tired as I've been for a while. We did about 140 km in about 5 hours. We were lucky though that there were no set backs like flat tires and such. It seems you go months without a flat and then you get one on every ride.

In any case, I got a deep tiredness that I can only get from this sort of long aerobic exercise. I also weighed myself before and after and lost about 2 kg on the ride, though I understand this is mainly from water loss (sweat), and I did do some of that.

In fact, it's actually pretty tough going down because you're sweating like a pig from going up, then you do a U-turn and head down for about 10 or 15 minutes, and if it's cold out you can freeze. That happened to me last fall when I went up there for the first time and it was pretty cold out, and I started uncontrollable shivering. But today wasn't so bad.

Sounds like a long fast ride chainring. I'm jealous.

I'm going out tomorrow morning and hope to put in a lot of miles, but don't think I can do that many. I'm driving out to crra. Colmenar and then riding and avoid crossing town.

It's really hard to find time to ride regularly, like four or five days a week. I figure that's what you have to do to improve. But if you can't ride, running will do the trick. I know a couple of guys who run four days a week and ride mountain bikes once a week, and they're strong. I mean they're out in front of the pack.

By the way, today I went on an organized mountain bike ride from Cercedilla to Fuenfría to Navacerrada and back to Cercedilla. Very enjoyable! Here's a pic of me (on the left) and one of the guys I went with.

Hi guys… Well, what can I say? Chainring is near to become a pro tour man (Mamma mia what long and speedy rides he takes!) and Iván is getting confidence on breaking distance barriers he previously put as a limit on his rides. Guys, If you had enough time the hour record would be beatten by you day after day!.

Since I have an appointment this very Friday with the powerful-widow makers cyclists that Chain is riding with, I´m scared. For now, my pretensions as an amateur cyclist are quite humble and I feel I can make a fool of myself trying to follow for some kilometers that pace on my hybrid…

    In God I trust :).

    Cheers!
