Glad to know your pain is disappearing!. I hope seeing you next tuesday or whenever this week on our skinny machines. Rainy days? Big deal! Mud? A kid´s game. Remember you now have your new tires to succesfully cope with bad weather. The same with being a winner or looser!. With your Navegal/Ardent you don´t have any excuse not to be the first one on the finish line... But next time try not to hurt yourself! ;-) Ladies and Gentlemen, the fall is here. No, I didn´t mean to say Chain´s fall but the Autom. Rainy days ahead this very week. Summer is over; prepare your bike for the falling leaves. Cheers!
Lately i've just used maxxis tires, but i have a friend who likes to practice with several brands in hard conditions. He says that Kenda Nevegal is like a chewing gum, but it's too easy to bite, and it lasts a very little time. Maxxis isn´t as safe as Kenda, but it's harder to bite and it lasts a longer time, so he thinks Maxxis is a better purchase. I´ve been using Maxxis high roller, 2.3 in my lapierre zesty and 2.1 in my scott scale (front wheel) and i haven´t got any trouble with them, but my riding level is too bad to take my opinion seriously
You talk to different people and get all sorts of different recommendations. A lot of people think that the Minion is the best for enduro, but others speak highly of the High Rollers. Actually the shop assistant told me that the Navegal is made of a harder rubber than the Minion so it lasts longer, but harder rubber means a bit less grip, but it seemed like a good compromise to me. My last tires, the Hutchinson Cougar, only lasted for four months! If tires wear out that fast I'm going to be spending a fortune on them. As for flats (I suppose that's what you mean when you say 'harder to bite'), my front tire (Navegal 2.35) is tubeless and the back (Ardent 2.25) has antipunture liquid in the innertube, so I shouldn't get many flats. I hope not anyway. I'll let you know.
Yeah, Minion, Navegal, Cougar, Ardent… It´s nothing new that people tend to speak highly of what they currently got on their bikes. When it comes to check some reviews out, you´d better take into account bad criticism firstly if it´s the owner who speaks. Otherwise everything will be a little overrated. Anyway, since it´s the owner the one who is supposed to make the review, and since this effect is exactly the same for every tire under review, as a general guidance it is ok to pay attention to them especially if there are lots of reviews on the same tire, But nothing like your own experience on replacing them. C´mon Chain! You´re american... You should have said antiflats liquid!. Dear oh dear... that bad briton influence in you! ;-)
Yeah, yeah, I hardly know American English from British anymore, just mixing it all up. But I shoot straight :bond (ha ha ha, no guns for me.) Yeah, there are all sorts of reviews and opinions out there, but now I'm going to find out for myself if I like the Navegal and Ardent. My first impressions in the Pardo last Sunday were good. They were surprisingly different: the whole bike was eerily different. It's amazing how much difference tires make. In any case, I think in the future I'll get tires over the internet because they are dear; a lot of money for one tire and the anti-flat liquid. My wife was with me when I bought the Navegal and I think when she saw the price she actually went a bit pale. She just couldn't believe that a bike tire cost so much, certainly as much as a car tire.
All right, all right... when it comes to English you´ve licence to kill . I´m afraid your wife´s right. :crybaby Making tires sounds like a profitable business. Buyers should adopt bike makers’ techniques when buying them. I mean –for example, collective buys to reduce by at least a significant percentage (say a 50-60% off) their price. How much would your bike cost if you had to buy it part by part?. The same with future parts to buy: With all those foreseen replacement parts on a given bike, it´s easy to make buyers meet with sellers who are talented enough to be willing to offer great discounts on such those parts. As mentioned, the internet is a great way to do so. Big LBS menace if shipping cost go down.
Ey lads, just thought you would appreciate this: http://www.syncrobike.com/ftp/MANUALES/NeumaticosMTB.Lo_que_la_verdad_esconde.pdf (Some great information on tires. Exclusively in Spanish. Sorry for those of you who don´t speak Cervantes´ language)
what a brick my dear! thanks for the info, my kudos It 's been impossible for me to ride this weekend, in retaliation my Orbea will overcome a hard week so she'll be ready for the Sierra Norte this 7, sunday, 80 lovely kms around La Cabrera. Pretty thrilling steeps there. Will you be there? It's also for the darksided like you!
My wife had the car today which meant no Sierra for me, had to settle for El Pardo, but it was fun, in fact a glorious day, clean air, blue sky, and good dirt. What else could a cyclist possibly ask for? By the way, below is a video of me doing some dark side stuff. So I think I'll get the car next week, so I'll look around and see what rides are being organized. I don't think I've ever been to La Cabrera, tho maybe at some point I was nearby and didn't know it. hey chain you should give it a go........ there are plenty of rock gardens waiting for you..... neat flowy trails omg what are you doing there at EL PArdo? LOL!! PS: you're not the first who 'flew' are you??
You said it! A good place for Chain to practice some enduro. I reckon the total of rocks to be millions per inhabitant there which is to say out of my league but certainly not of Chain´s. I like to go and see a stage car rally event that´s celebrated over there almost every year. Jorgt You will have a blast by riding your bike there!. Chain´s the second one but this video could well be the one to pick from a series of 1.000; the one in which Chain flies the best. Cheers!
Yeah, in El Pardo I'm demonstrating that I've reached that level of bike skills where I can impress small children and beginner cyclists irat ha ha Sooooo how good are you guys anyway? I'm mean, you're not semi-pros, are you? because if you're not I won't ride with you, ha ha ha. Seriously, how would you describe the level of difficulty physically and technically? Are there lots of technically challenging sections which would require me to take my beefier full suspension bike (my Rallon)? Or are technical sections few and far between so I'd be better off with my lighter hardtail? Actually I'm not all that crazy about rock gardens, especially those with loads of loose rocks everywhere. I need to work on building up speed and 'floating over them', I usually end up slowing down and trying to go around them.
morning chain! i'm an average-advanced rider though i 'm not the one to talk about it. It's at climbing where i am devoted and descending where i enjoy the most. i go out with a nice herd of guys, and we seem quite satisfied with the routes we ride. Technical climbs dotted with rocks, roots and steeps, high climbing gradients..... lovely. Single tracks in the field of -5%-15% are to be praised.... you don't need a FS in order to have a beautiful time
I googled it. Under the denomination of "Sierra Norte" there are lots of bike events in Madrid, but I presume you´re refering to this one: http://www.facebook.com/XiiMaratonSierraNorte?ref=stream Sounds good, but isn´t it a little too expensive for non federated bikers?. If I´m not mistaken for this info. Precios: 18 € federados y 18 € + licencia de un día (total 33€ para los no federados.
yep, the issue is that if you don't run under cyclotourism/racing year license it comes to be expensive. This is a fact. But hey, you can download the track and try to do it on your own one of this days. I can assure you a nice ride, full of trails it´s a well designed route! i´m paying just 18 quids and it´s quite fair for the service shame for those 15e on expense. see you on the dirt!!!
It doesn't look like I'm going to be making it to the Sierra Norte this time. Thanks for thinking of me in any case.
you'll regret it i warned you. Taking good care of myself today, i did a little run and then i set up the bike for the D day. All the stuff is also ready so i don't have to get up so early...... I need some stamina, banana power!
Cool! Rest (not in peace but in bed) till the H hour!. Your organized ride is coming up!!! On monday we´ll ask you for some review of the event. Btw, tomorrow Chain will be in Patones, so close to you in a self organized ride! Have fun lads!
