LOL Languages!, Don´t fight, don´t shout, TALK and LISTEN... In the end, no matter what language you use, It's not just communication but effective communication what counts!: Americans Vs Spaniards (from Galicia) on the verge of a diplomatic conflict, trying to determine who´s the most stubborn! ;-). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HD9ZPNHSGs By talking people understand each other ;-) LOL
Thanks Mackem, looks like all you really have to do is youtube 'scouser' or 'geordie' and viola! I've heard that's a fake, though apparently something similar really happened. You'll never guess where I'm going tomorrow: Alcalá! A group's heading that way so looks like I'll be on Jorge's turf. I'll keep my eyes peeled for speeding bikers in case they're Jorge and friends :dance
Alcala is Jorge´s domain, Be careful!, He´s always watching :sofa for new intruders to impose his male territorial dominance and bullying new bikers out of his harem. If by sheer coincidence you happen to come across him you will inmediately be challenged to a bike duel!. :boxing
Well, I didn't see JorgeT, but I did bump into the other Jorge, the one I rode with in the Pardo (along with jorgt) about a month ago. So we chatted for a moment. Nice to see you! Alcalá is REALLY nice, actually much nicer than I'd imagined: just didn't think there'd be such nice riding in the direction, I thought all the good stuff was in the Sierras, but now I know otherwise! There was a big difference in temperature, it was 7º out when we got there, and I was basically in summer garb so I was definitely cold, yet by the time we finished at about 2:00 we were sweating like pigs. My car themometer said 24º, but in the sun it felt hotter. We had the heater on going out and the air con on going back. Rode my XC bike, which I figured would be the best, after all that's what the Las Mañanas Complutenses crowd does there, but actually my full sus would've been nice at times. There are no rocks or jumps, but some areas are pretty bumpy. I remember we did the 'Notario', which was a bit scary because there are steep downhills on both sides of the trail, and another run which I think was called 'the tunnel' cos that's where you end up. Some really great burms there! A lot of fun! Alas, there are no photos of this ride. Actually we bumped into the Saturday Morning Show gang there, and they were taking plenty of pictures. I'll probably ride with them one of these days, but not on Saturdays, I work that day (but not in the summer). And I hope to ride one of these days with the Mañanas Complutenses crowd: Jorge reiterated the invitation!
Mmm... interesting. Didn´t know Alcala was such a blast. Tho It seems I underestimated the mountain biking potential in the area, we could keep tabs on it by reading (take it as a challenge!!!) Jorge´s "cockney" thread "Las Mañanas Complutenses, partiéndose el alma por el Henares" ;-). The only problem when it comes to m-biking there, as Mario says, is the Alcala mud after rain! ;-)
Yeah, the guys I was with said Alcalá is a favorite, but the drawbacks are mud, even a little is a drag, and that it gets blistering hot in the summer. They also mentioned the standard color there is brown, but today it was gloriously green, they'd never seen so much green there. BTW, with so much rain and now abundant vegetation, there could be nasty forest fires in Spain this summer Inter, maybe we can organize a trip to Alcalá sometime, perhaps during the May Day holidays or in June. In any case, before it gets scorching hot.
glad to see you liked it !!! you'll always be welcomed, do not heitate to call me and if i'm able to i'll show you TRAILS!! Scousers... our lessons are getting better day by day...
Yes, that would be nice. Keep in contact for any specific day you can think of going there!. Jorge, Is it possible -or have you ever tried- to mountain-bike from Alcala all the way to Guadalajara? :rasca
Inter, maybe we can figure out a day when we can go, then we'll get in touch with Jorge and see if he's free to show us around. If he isn't I think I know my way around well enough not to get horribly lost, and if we do there'll probably be people around to ask. How does 1 May work for you? My idea is to drive or take the commuter train there. Sounds like you're getting into bike tourism.
if i don't have labour duties i'll be ready to host you on 1 MAy, i'm eagerly loking forward to it, and answering Inter, yes, i did that a few times but i finally got bored of all flat fire tracks...but if you're interested in it i will show you how cheers
I feel up to it. Have to check out if 1 May works fine for me, but yeah, I think it does. Anyway, there is no CIVIS -non-stop train to Alcala- *on Holyday days so that it takes a lot more -around double the time- to get there by train. Not big deal anyways. ;-). Going by car could be a better option tho neither my bigger 2-door car (not a hatchback) nor the smaller one (it´s a little hatchback 2-door car) is a bike-friendly car. It takes me some time to manage to get the bike inside, but maybe it´s better to do so than catch a standard, unfortunately not a CIVIS train. It would be interesting if I can find a cycle route from Madrid to Guadalajara. Now starting to collect some clues, but if I knew how to go from Al to Gu by bike, (no matter how flat the way is, as a XC rider I do prefer it to any rough terrain) I´d be happy to see half of the puzzle worked out!. ;-). Thanks Jorge. :flores
Considering the fact that firstly It looks like it will be pouring on Monday and Tuesday and, secondly and most important, we wanna be masters of our fates, and that´s to say we want by no means to swim in the Alcala´s infamous mud puddles yet!, I´m sorry to say that our glorious but tentative XC ride in Alcala is unfortunately at jeopardize... :-(
You may be right. I'd rather steer clear of Alcalá mud, and it's looking like rainy days are back, just in time to ruin our long May Day weekend, or at least put a damper on it. Groan. OK, as things stand we'll say our Alcalá plans are tentative at best. We'll just have to play things by ear.
damnnn! if it rains you'd better keep away from here! , but don't call off so soon: wait and see because the weather is absolutely nuts
All eyes on the clouds! For the moment I'm just hoping I can go for a ride tomorrow in El Pardo. How about if on Tuesday evening we see how things look over in Alcalá, then make the final decision? That way we look before we leap, ha ha
The weather is bomkers, yesterday we had sun rain wind snow and hail. I was very very lucky, managed to ride in the 3 hour sun break.
Lucky you Mackem. I´m afraid we wouldn´t be able to get rid of the sticky mud in Alcalá if our ride were to take place on Wednesday since many cats are coming up!... with the same number of dogs, ready to take control of the sky in the area on Monday and Tuesday. Let´s see how bad it is, what´s really up there! ;-) Cheers.
I lucked out too, went for a nice ride in El Pardo today, no rain. I did have contact with the ground once tho, nothing really, finished the ride, but now my arse is hurting, ouuuuuu I was lucky and beat the odds today, well, beat the weather report anyway. The forecast rain didn't come, so now I'm feeling more optimistic about Alcalá. But as I said, we'll look before we leap.
Lately I've been plagued by broken chains. Broke again last Sunday in El Pardo. When I got home and took a look at it I noticed the the derraileur was really loose, so I had to tighten the screw that holds it on. Then I noticed that one of the derraileur pulleys was missing a tooth. Got new ones today. My bike is one year old now. Guess the honeymoon is over, it'll need more and more maintenance, but it's worth it! Hmmm, things are not actually looking too good for Alcalá on Wednesday, there's actually rain forecast for that day.
